Editorial Team

Matthias J. Becker, PhD, is Editor-in-Chief of Digital Hate Review. He is also an AddressHate Research Scholar at NYU's Center for the Study of Antisemitism, where he leads the Decoding Hate project. A cognitive linguist and discourse analyst by training, his work examines how antisemitism, related hate ideologies, and antidemocratic resentment circulate across digital environments in their explicit, coded, and multimodal forms, combining qualitative discourse analysis with computational and LLM-enhanced methods.

From 2020 onward, he led Decoding Antisemitism, the largest European study of antisemitism in digital communication, producing Decoding Antisemitism: A Guide to Identifying Antisemitism Online (Palgrave Macmillan/Springer Nature, 2024) and six Discourse Reports on hate speech across the UK, France, and Germany, with subsequent work extending to the US.

He is co-editor of two further open-access volumes — Antisemitism in Online Communication: Transdisciplinary Approaches to Hate Speech in the Twenty-First Century (Open Book Publishers, 2024) and Imagery of Hate Online (Open Book Publishers, 2025) — and author of Antisemitism in Reader Comments (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021). He has advised the US State Department, the European Commission, the German Federal Government, and Meta on platform governance and AI-assisted detection of online hate.

Karthika S. Cohen is Managing Editor of Digital Hate Review and Director of Research and Operations at the Penn Medical Communication Research Institute, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where she conducts health communication research and oversees the institute's full research portfolio.

She brings a background spanning science, journalism, and academic publishing to her editorial work at DHR, with experience guiding peer-reviewed scholarship from submission through publication. Her writing on digital culture, technology, and science has appeared in The Atlantic, HuffPost, The Guardian, and Scientific American, and she has authored peer-reviewed papers and book chapters across communication science and public health. Karthika holds a Master of Journalism from Temple University and a Master of Science in Microbiology from Colorado State University.

At DHR, she oversees day-to-day editorial operations across all three sections of the journal, manages the peer review workflow, and serves as the primary point of contact for reviewers across the journal. She also serves as section lead for the Legal Forum.

Keyu Glanz is Editorial and Outreach Coordinator at Digital Hate Review and Research Assistant at AddressHate, where he supports research operations for the Decoding Hate project.

At DHR, he serves as the primary point of liaison with Research authors throughout the editorial process and with contributors to Perspectives, the journal's third section, coordinating outreach, commissioning, and editorial communication across the section's curated essays and conversations. Trained as a communication scholar, his work focuses on the intersection of political communication and international relations, with particular emphasis on global information campaigns conducted by the United States and competing states, including China, Russia, and Iran. His research combines computational text analysis — sentiment analysis, topic modeling, and machine learning — with statistical modeling and qualitative methods.

His scholarship has appeared in the International Communication Gazette, the International Journal of Communication, Place Branding and Public Diplomacy, Global Media and China, and the Journal of Current Chinese Affairs. His ongoing book project draws on computational methods and critical cultural approaches to analyze contested definitions of human rights between the United States and China across more than two decades of government reports and state-sponsored media.
